On March 13, 2006, the Cherokee County Commissioners’ Court unanimously passed an order which requires each food establishment to have at least one certified food manager on staff.  In addition to the certified food manager, all other food handlers in the establishment must obtain a food handlers’ card.  Each food establishment must be in compliance with this new order by December 31, 2006.  Child-care facilities, as defined by Section 42.002, Human Resources Code; establishments that do not prepare or handle exposed potentially hazardous food as defined in 25 TAC §229.162 (66); and nonprofit organizations are exempted from the certified food manager requirements.

As soon as preparation for the food handlers’ training has been finalized and locations for the classes have been secured, this information will also be posted on our website: www.cchdtexas.org  select Food Service.  Emails will be sent to the firms who provide us their email addresses.  You may email your information to us at csanders@texashan.org

.

We plan to offer this class numerous times throughout the County on various days and times.  We also plan to have a Spanish class and offer other assistance that may be needed.  The fee for this course will be $10.00 per person and the Food Handler’s card will be valid throughout the County for three years.  Food handler’s training from some of the surrounding health districts may be accepted.  Please check with our office for additional information.
